More than four in 10 United States Republican voters nationwide say they support presidential candidate Donald Trump while two-thirds of the voters predict that he would win the Republican nomination to run for president next year, a new poll by CNN said.

Trump is polling at 41 percent which is double that of the runner-up Texas Senator Ted Cruz at 19 percent.

According to the poll, all other candidates have less than 10 percent support from the Republican voters. Florida Senator Marco Rubio was at 8 percent, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 6 percent, while former Florida governor and George W. Bush’s brother, Jeb Bush, at 5 percent.

The billionaire's lead is particularly worrying as he has been accused by many in the United States and abroad of having anti-immigrant and Islamophobic sentiments while others have gone so far as to call him a racist.

The lead is significant because according to CNN he is ahead among both men and women, younger and older voters, white evangelicals, conservatives and both self-identified Republicans and independents who lean toward the party.
While Trump’s support tends to decrease among college graduates and tea party supporters, he also remains the top candidate among those groups in comparison to other candidates.

Among university graduates, 26 percent back Trump; 20 percent Cruz, while tea party supporters split 37 percent for Trump, 34 percent for Cruz. Also, 70 percent of those supporting Trump say they have made up their mind for the controversial billionaire.

Trump’s main talking points are around cracking down on immigration from Mexico by building a wall along the U.S. southern border. He has also called for banning Muslims from entering the U.S. until “we figure out what the hell is going on,” referring to situation in the Middle East. Meanwhile, he also called for a database for all Muslim U.S. citizens.
