Two years ago, in a moving essay published in the Los Angeles Times, Orange is the New Black's Diane Guerrero revealed that her parents were deported to their native Colombia by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when she was just 14 years old. That will be the subject of the actor’s new show, a CBS drama titled "In the Country We Love," in the same title as her memoir of her parent’s ordeal.

"In the Country We Love" will star Guerrero as a high-strung corporate lawyer who takes on pro-bono immigration cases after it’s revealed her family’s own struggles with deportation.
Since her essay was published, Guerrero has gone on to advocate for immigration rights and speak out against deportations. Ironically, the White House named her the White House Ambassador for Citizenship and Naturalization in 2015. She has also worked with Immigrant Legal Resource Center and Mi Familia Vota, a nonpartisan Latinx organization that promotes citizenship and voter registration.
