The shooting took place 4 p.m. local time in the LoDo district of the city, which is close to Coors Field, home of Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies.
A witness noted seeing a gunman open fire, before speeding away, writes the Denver Post. Local police say the man is still on the loose.
The Denver bloodshed came mere hours after an unrelated shooting at a hospital in Chicago, where a gunman killed a doctor, a pharmaceutical assistant and a police officer before being shot to death by police, local authorities said.
Denver authorities have said that the four injured victims are not suffering life-threatening injuries.
