Opposition reports about the cause of the protester's death were false.

Venezuela’s ombudsman, Tarek William Saab, published the forensic report on the teen protester who died at a demonstration Wednesday, confirming that it was not caused by police but was rather a self inflicted fatality.

Saab announced that Lander Armas Neomar Alejandro, 17, was killed from handling a mortar during an opposition protest against the Venezuelan government, contrary to reports circulated by the opposition.

“Results from medical forensic experts reveal that the terrible death of Neomar Lander was not through the launching of a tear-gas bomb,” Saab wrote on Twitter.

Saab published the full report on his social media accounts, reporting that the victim suffered "fractures of the fourth and fifth rib, collapse of the left lung with internal hemorrhagic effusion, forearm burn by a homemade explosive weapon.”

Last week, Venezuelan special operation forces carrying out a search operation seized weapons including an AT4 anti-tank bazooka, C4 explosives, gas masks, grenades, helmets, mortars, military uniforms and bulletproof vests in the Bello Campo neighborhood in Caracas. While many opposition protesters have been peaceful, there is an extremist element in the opposition dedicated to fomenting violence.

A protest took place Wednesday outside the municipal office in Chacao, Venezuela’s capital. Lander had attended, armed with a mortar bomb, and suffered injuries after its accidental detonation. The teen received immediate emergency assistance and was transferred to the Avila Clinic before the injuries proved fatal.

President Nicolas Maduro spoke to the public Thursday, condemning the recruitment of minors for protests. Opposition leaders are guilty of offering teens food, money, and drugs in exchange for work of vandalism and acts of violence.

“I hope that some sensible voices emerge from the opposition and stop this madness that has fallen into the baseness and misery of searching out children and youths with drug addiction problems,” stated the president.

He ended his speech with a clip from a news broadcast from VTV reporting the discovery of a camp in Chacao Miranda state dedicated to training minors to incite crowds and perform violent demonstrations.
