North Korea Ambassador Slams Mexico’s Decision to Expel him as ‘Ignorant’

North Korea’s ambassador to Mexico has slammed the nation's decision to have him expelled from the country over Pyongyang’s recent nuclear tests.

The ambassador, Kim Hyong Gil, called the move “ignorant”, saying the issue is one for the United States and “has nothing to do with Mexico.”

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Thursday ordered Kim to leave within 72 hours, expressing his government's “absolute rejection” of North Korea’s recent nuclear activity.

“I express great displeasure at the bilateral diplomatic measures taken by the Mexican government that claims to have a sovereign foreign policy. That (claim) is without basis,” Kim told reporters outside the North Korean embassy in Mexico City, according to Reuters.

Last week, North Korea, or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), as it prefers to be called, announced that it had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb to "examine and confirm the accuracy and credibility" of its technology for loading on an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The test followed military exercises conducted by the United States and South Korea on the peninsula and U.S. President Donald Trump's recent threats of "fire and fury" if North Korea threatened the United States.

Pyongyang which carries out its nuclear and missile programs in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions and sanctions, has repeatedly said it will do what it takes to defend itself against  U.S. aggression.
