Bill Bratton, who has exported the "broken windows" policing model around the world, will advise corporations on security.

Bill Bratton, the New York City Police Commissioner who said Tuesday he would step down at the end of the month, is going to head a new security division of a consulting firm with close ties to the Clintons.

Anatomy of a Neoliberal Racist Killing Machine

Teneo Risk, according to its parent company Teneo Holdings, advises “CEOs and leaders of the world’s largest and most complex companies” on issues from “anti-terrorism preparedness” to “security due diligence.”

“In a world of increasing uncertainty and instability, CEOs and business leaders are now, more than ever, looking for advice on critical risk and security issues from trusted, proven experts,” the firm said in a press release announcing its new hire. “Commissioner Bratton brings unparalleled expertise that will benefit our clients around the globe.”

Teneo Holdings was founded by Declan Kelly, a U.S. economic envoy to Ireland appointed by Hillary Clinton, and Doug Band, a close adviser to Bill Clinton, both of whom donated large sums to the Democratic National Convention and to former Democratic National Committee chief Debbie Wasserman Schultz, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Bill Clinton has both hired the firm and worked for it, as both an adviser and member of its board of directors. Hillary Clinton’s closest aides and vice chair of her campaign have also worked for it, and in turn many of its employees have worked at and donated generously to the Clinton Foundation.

Teneo has been investigated since 2013 on whether it had improper access to the highest levels of U.S. government while Clinton was secretary of state. The firm declined to help with most of the Judiciary Committee’s queries, according to Reuters.

Bratton has previously worked for private consulting firms, as well as for the Boston and Los Angeles police departments. He built his reputation off of the "broken windows" policing, which targets small crime in low-income communities based on the theory that it will discourage a culture of law-breaking—a theory that, in practice, inspired racist policies like stop and frisk.

After exporting his anti-crime model around the world, collaborating closely with the British private security industry, Bratton received an honorary title from Queen Elizabeth II.

The Clintons and the Democratic Party have long been associated with tough-on-crime police practices: “the most egregious violations of broken windows policing around the country have actually been enforced under Democratic mayors,” academic Christina Heatherton said recently on Democracy Now.

Protesters had encamped next to New York city hall since Monday, demanding the mayor fire Bratton and end broken windows policing.
