Venezuela's Minister of Defense of Venezuela, Vladimir Padrino López, said on Wednesday that the sovereignty of the country resides in the people, not in extraterritorial agents, and called to exercise the right to vote on May 20 for the presidential elections.
After a meeting with the leadership of the National Electoral Council (CNE) in Caracas, they agreed on various plans to guarantee security during the elections.
Padrino López indicated that the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) are committed to protecting the electoral material within the framework of the Republic Plan(military deployment), not to open and close electoral centers, since this task belongs to the CNE because it is the legal body in charge of this process.
In addition, he added that they will guarantee the security of the voters, "of all Venezuelans with a deep democratic vocation who want to participate in full freedom of their political exercise of suffrage."
The minister reaffirmed the commitment of the Bolivarian armed forces and indicated that in the last 20 years the Republic Plan has perfected "in every process all the actions, all the articulations and all the coordination" for the success of the electoral process.
Padrino López stressed that the only way for the population to resolve differences of a political nature is through elections and called for voting to be the only way to maintain peace, as well as having an accurate path towards political and economic prosperity for the nation.
