This time the first lady allegedly used a fancy appartment in Miami thanks to the generosity of another Mexican governmental contractor.

Mexico's first lady, Angelica Rivera, seems to have a weakness: luxurious mansions obtained with the support of companies that seek lucrative public contracts with her husband's government, according to an investigation by The Guardian published Tuesday.

According to the British paper, the wife of President Enrique Peña Nieto has been living in a fancy apartment of the gated community Ocean Tower One, located in Key Biscayne, south of Miami Beach.

Rivera allegedly bought one apartment unit in 2005, but five years later she began using a neighboring unit bought in 2010 by potential government contractor Grupo Pierdant, “apparently set up for that purpose.”

“Since then (Ricardo Pierdant, founder of the company) appears to have let the first lady use the property as an addition to her other apartment, in effect allowing them to be managed as a single unit,” added the report.

Grupo Pierdant, “which is a contender to run Mexico’s ports,” according to The Guardian, also paid the former telenovela star her property taxes for the property, which includes a pool, tennis courts and concierge—amounting to almost US$30,000 in 2014.

The allegations echo a similar scandal that forced Rivera to get rid of a US$7 million mansion nicknamed the Casa Blanca, or White House, in Mexico City after the property was tied to another government contractor.
