The year 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of the historic leader of the Mexican Revolution, Emiliano Zapata.

AMLO signed a decree declaring 2019 as the year of Zapata, in the historic city of Ayala in Morelos, where Emiliano Zapata signed the famous political proclamation Plan de Ayala (Ayala's Plan).

AMLO said his government is "going to put into practice the ideal that for the good of all, the poor first,"  honoring the ideals of the Mexican revolutionary.

He also noted that Zapata, like many other social leaders, "are everlasting" because they dedicated their lives for the struggles of justice, freedom and democracy.

The Mexican president said he remain among the Mexican people to confront "the great and serious" national problems, because if a ruler "does not do anything, he is worth nothing."

The best way to remember this historical figure is to respect and put into practice his ideas, responding to the demands of the Mexican people, mainly the most humble.

"With all my love and recognition of always the loyal and patriotic man who was the Caudillo del Sur, an honest and kind-hearted man, a true national hero," wrote AMLO in the Zapata family book.
