Iris Aguirre Borrego, from the right-wing Social Encounter party, said the U.S. has become “too liberal” and that Trump would “put things in order.”

A local lawmaker from the Mexican state of Zacatecas has managed to make herself one of the most hated people in the country by echoing U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's racist comments about Mexicans and is now facing expulsion from her own party as a result.

Iris Aguirre Borrego, from the right-wing Social Encounter party, appeared to blame Mexicans themselves for the support within the United States for Trump's outlandish proposals, such as deporting millions of Latinos and building a massive wall on the southern border.

“(Leaders in the U.S.) are taking extreme decisions because sadly Mexicans are involved in very shameful activities in the U.S.,” said Aguirre.

“I think it's the Mexicans who to take advantage of supermarkets, it's Mexicans who have a bad reputation, and sadly this is one of the consequences,” she continued, suggesting that Mexican people are stealing from stores.

Aguirre didn't stop there, openly praising Trump, saying he was the kind of president that the U.S. needed “in order to return to the principles of the country that were being lost, that sadly other presidents let happen.”

The lawmaker said the U.S. has become “too liberal” and that Trump would “put things in order.”

Trump is almost universally reviled in Mexico after he launched his campaign attacking Mexicans, accusing them of bringing drugs and crime and of being rapists.

Aguirre's comments were quickly condemned and she became the subject of ridicule on social media.

Even her right-wing party said they were considering penalizing the lawmaker, while supporters of the party called for her expulsion.

After the uproar, Aguirre tried to backtrack on her comments, issuing a statement that contradicted nearly everything she had said initially, claiming she opposes mass deportations.

She further claimed that media outlets had manipulated her comments but then went on to say that Mexico needed a leader like Trump.

Aguirre was not directly elected, she reached the legislative assembly in Zacatecas as part of the party list. She was specifically nominated by a christian organization that supports the right-wing Social Encounter party.

She currently sits on the legislative committee for migrants.
