Marielle Franco's partner Monica Benicio wants to know who gave the order to kill Franco after two former policemen were captured in connection to her death.

Monica Benicio, Marielle Franco’s companion questioned the fact that even though two people were arrested in connection to her murder, why wasn’t the question of who ordered her killing being addressed.

"We think that the most important answer has not been given to us: Who sent Marielle killer and what motivates this crime?” Benicio said Tuesday in an interview with local media.

Two former policemen were captured Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro as suspects in the murder of Marielle Franco, a councilwoman and human rights activist who was shot on March 14, 2018.

Franco, a lesbian Black woman, who was a member of the leftist Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL) and defender of minority rights, was shot dead inside her vehicle as she was heading home after leaving a political event.

Benicio wants to know who ordered her killing and she will not spend another year waiting for the answer.  "Honestly, I hope we do not have to wait more than a year for this answer. But we can not forget that finally, something concrete is happening in respect to these investigations, and that needs to be stressed."

One of the detainees, the military police officer Ronnie Lessa, is suspected of being the shooter that killed the councilor of Rio de Janeiro. Investigators revealed that he had personal connections to the family of President Jair Bolsonaro.

The other detainee, Elcio Vieira de Queiroz, who had been expelled from the military police, is accused of driving the car from which the crime was carried out.

The investigators discovered that the crime was meticulously prepared for three months with Lessa having made inquiries of places frequented by Franco.
