Maradona also known as "El Pelusa" recalled an anecdote of meeting with the leader of the Bolivarian revolution, where he lived with the Venezuelan leader during the III Summit of the Peoples and the IV Summit of the Americas, in November 2005.

The renowned football player highlighted the great triumph he experienced after Hugo Chavez decided against the US-backed Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).

"We beat 10 to one," he said.

Maduro also called upon the recently elected governors, stating, they are the second tier of the government responsible for protecting the Venezuelan people further adding, that they need to plan for mechanisms that would protect the people from the constant attacks of the right.

"We need a solid plan that combines each region with its own characteristics, its themes, problem plans, its own priorities as a region with a solid national vision that allows us to address and solve key problems for the people of Venezuela," the head of state said.

The Venezuelan president also stressed that the new plan should focus on solving the issues caused by the economic war, instigated and promoted by internal and external sectors. He further insisted on the need to work on remedying the inflation induced by these sectors in the country.

The president also blasted social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram which not allow the government to defend itself and to show the truth of the country and allow it to counteract the smear campaigns carried out by the right against the South American nation.
