Follow teleSUR's live coverage regarding the bilateral cease-fire agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC.

The Colombian government signed a historic cease-fire with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, better known as the FARC, in Havana Tuesday where President Juan Manuel Santos ratifed the deal with FARC leader Rodrigo London.

The terms of the agreement will include rebel disarmament and demobilization. The government agreed to establish 22 transitional demobilization zones, while the FARC must hand over its weapons to United Nations monitors within six months.

The United Nations will play a pivotal role in the monitoring and verification of the agreement between the two parties, monitoring adherence to the eventual cease-fire, and resolving disputes emerging from the demobilization.

The cease-fire agreement includes a provision on a popular consultation, with parties agreeing to abide by a ruling by the Constitutional Court on the form and aspects of the consultation. While the FARC had proposed a National Constituent Assembly, the Santos government pushed for a plebiscite.
