Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the United States had made "a vicious move" which will "bear no fruit" in designating the Revolutionary Guards as a foreign terrorist organization.

"They wish to plot against our Sepah (the Guard corps) ... it is in the front line of confronting enemies of our revolution and has always defended the country ... America has failed to block our advances," Khamenei was quoted as saying by the state media.

"In spite of all the pressure over the past 40 years, Americans have failed to do a damn thing and their vicious move will bear no fruit," Khamenei said, a day after a decision by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The United States designated Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a foreign terrorist organization on Monday.

In response to the U.S. move, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) designated on Monday United States forces in the Middle East, known as the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), as a terrorist organization.

189 parliamentarians out of 198 voted in favor of the bill on backing and reinforcing IRGC against U.S. measure.

According to this ratification, all the U.S. troops and its allies operating in the West Asian region are recognized as terrorist by Iran and any financial or technical aid to them will be considered as a terrorist act.

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani declared in a speech today that "the Americans and those who are part of the global arrogance, want to avenge their defeats and failures through labeling as 'terrorist" a group (IRGC)." Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani criticized the U.S. decision as the "climax of stupidity and ignorance."

Iran military chief added the Islamic Republic of Iran will not remain silent towards the U.S. move. "We consider the U.S. troops in West Asia to be terrorists and if they do a damn thing, we will confront them vigorously," he said.

Last year, the President of the United States, Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and restored sanctions which were lifted within the framework of this agreement. In response, the Iranian government took legal action against the U.S. in the international courts.
