"We are pursuing the attackers who escaped from the area soon after the attack that killed the paramilitary personnel," North Eastern regional coordinator, Muhammad Saleh, told Anadolu Agency.

The accident took place in the eastern region of the country, on Sunday, where the improvised device exploded after a vehicle transporting the officers drove over it.

The five administration police and three reservists were killed “while protecting our borders and security of the county,” Kenya’s police spokesman, Charles Owino, remarked to Reuters.

Al Shabaab has long targeted the government of Somalia and as a result, routinely launch attacks on members of the security forces of neighboring Kenya in a bid to force out African Union-deployed peacekeepers.
