Arkan Mizher was shot in the chest during a raid by Israeli occupation forces. in Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem in the southern West Bank.

Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian teenager during a raid in the occupied West Bank Monday, the Palestinian health ministry said.

The Palestinian health minister said the dead youth was 15 years old and suffered a chest wound. Arkan Mizher, 15, was shot in the chest during a raid by Israeli occupation forces. in Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem in the southern West Bank.

His funeral took place later Monday. The Israeli army said its forces had entered the camp and arrested two people suspected of "terror activity".

Soldiers fired live rounds at the protesters, the army added.

Dheisheh camp is in Area A, the 18 percent of the West Bank supposedly under full Palestinian ِAuthority control. However, the Israeli army regularly carries out military raids in such areas which result in clashes with young Palestinians.

The camp was set up by the U.N. refugee agency in 1949 to host Palestinians refugees who were forcibly expelled from 45 villages on the western slopes of Jerusalem, which Israel controlled during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. According to UNRWA, at least 15,000 Palestinians currently live in the camp, the Middle East Eye website reported.

The news comes at a time of heightened crackdown by Israeli troops in both the West Bank and Gaza, where Israeli forces have killed more than 120 Palestinian protesters who participated in the Great march for Return protests along the Gaza-Israel barrier. Israel used snipers to shoot unarmed Palestinians who were demanding their right of return to lands taken from them when Israel was founded in 1948.
