A Palestinian young man was shot dead on Sunday by Israeli troops in the West Bank after he allegedly carried out a stabbing attack against an Israeli soldier.
The victim was identified as 17-year-old Abdullah Muhammad al-Ajlouni. Witnesses said the young man was “showered” with bullets at a checkpoint.
The incident follows the killing of a 21-year-old Palestinian man, also by Israeli forces, at a junction in Southwest Bethlehem for being “armed with a knife.” Witnesses to that incident say the youth was not carrying a knife.
More than 206 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers since October 2015.
Violence has been exacerbated by what Palestinians see as Israeli efforts to encroach on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, one of the holiest sites in Islam, as well as settler harassment against Palestinians in the illegally occupied West Bank.
