According to Defence for Children International, Israeli forces have killed at least 49 Palestinian children including 17 girls since October 2015.

More than 49 Palestinian children have been killed by the Israeli military since October last year, according to the Defence for Children International organization.

“Repeated killing and shooting of children by the Israeli army, and preventing paramedics from offering medical aid to them is considered a form of extrajudicial killing,” the group said Tuesday.

At least 17 girls were among those killed, according to the group.

Since October, more than 180 Palestinians have been killed as part of the Israeli crackdown on anti-occupation protests and unrest in the West Bank, dubbed by some as the Third Intifada (or uprising) that started at the beginning of October 2015.

The group said that a lack of accountability is encouraging Israeli troops to kill Palestinian children as no “real” investigations have been opened up into the deaths.

The organization added that recent laws approved by the Knesset, Israel's majority right-wing parliament, have enabled police and the military to use live ammunition against unarmed protesters and stone throwers.

The group said that Israeli soldiers were allowed to open fire on Palestinian protesters in situations deemed dangerous in the past, but they were given greater authority to execute Palestinians in September last year when sniper fire against stone-throwing Palestinians was officially authorized.

In recent months, Israeli troops have been shooting dead many Palestinians they deem possible attackers at checkpoints around the occupied West Bank, even when suspects do not pose an immediate threat and could easily be subdued in other ways without killing them.
