“This event is an opportunity to strengthen the cultural integration of the two allied nations,” said organizer Abdel-Fadel Ansari.

With Syria well on its way to recovery, from a seven-year crisis, a new Iranian art exhibition has been opened in the capital of Damascus.

The four-day exhibition features calligraphy, paintings as well as cartoons by Iranian artists - that depict war and resistance to "terrorism." The event was organized by the Iranian Culture Council in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Organization of Islamic Culture and Relations and the Syrian Ministry of Culture.

“(We are) holding this event … during the recovery of Syrian society,” Abdel-Fadel Ansari from the Iranian Culture Council told Press TV.

“During the first phase of the crisis, we focused on military and political coordination with the Syrian Government. Now we are partaking in cultural recovery.”

“This event is an opportunity to strengthen the cultural integration of the two allied nations,” he added.

The artists shed light on the ongoing crisis in Syria and measures taken against invasion.

“(We) are talking about the policy of resistance and terrorism, which has threatened this country and many other countries in this region for a long time,” explained cartoonist Ahmed Reza Bayzaei, whose work is being featured in the exhibition.

The event has also served as an opportunity for artists from both countries to create cultural bonds.

“This is a great opportunity for Syrians to meet with Iranian counterparts and learn more about Iranian culture and current artistic trends inside Iran,” Syrian artist Nader Khalil said at the event.

While Syria and Iran formed bilateral ties in 1979, shortly after the Islamic Revolution, this is the first time an event of this kind has taken place in Syria since the crisis erupted in 2011.
