Thirteen passengers are still missing.

Eight people in Indonesia have died after their boat capsized as it was traveling from Tanjung Selor to Tarakan on Borneo Island. The boat was carrying 48 passengers including several children, officials said.

Thirteen passengers are still missing after today's tragedy. Local reports claim a majority of the passengers have since been rescued.

Reports say the boat hadn't gotten far from Tanjung Selor located on coastal rivers of Tarakan Island, when it overturned and sank. Officials don't know what caused the vessel to capsize.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident.

In July 2017, a speed boat capsized near Indonesia's Borneo island, killing 10 people.
