Emwazi was targeted by a United States-led airstrike on Raqqa, the Islamic State group’s stronghold in Syria, in November. The U.S. said then that it was “99 percent” sure he had been killed, while the extremist group said Emwazi was alive but wounded.
The militant was featured in several beheading videos of Western citizens.
