"I am proud to be a leftist president because the idea is to carry out social programs," Sanchez Ceren announced, according to Prensa Latina. 

On his visit to the city of Quetzaltepeque, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, the president of El Salvador, reaffirmed Saturday, how proud he was to lead a left government in the region that is committed to helping people and solving social problems.

"I am proud to be a leftist president because the idea is to carry out social programs," Sanchez Ceren announced, according to Prensa Latina.

Sanchez Ceren visited the city of Quetzaltepeque to evaluate the progress of his program "Salvador Cumple," also commemorating the two-year presidential program.

He noted the advances made in the areas of social development and violence reduction in the district were made possible because of the local police.

"Studies, education are key to a community's development. That's why we are delivering computers to school centers."

Sanchez Ceren also reiterated his commitment to continue carrying out social programs in the areas of health, safety, and education as he announced the relaunch of an initiative 'House of Culture and Coexistence of Quetzaltepeque' that seeks to enhance art and citizen participation.

Other government policies have enabled local schools to receive musical instruments and mini-laptops. The president has invested US$7.4 million this year for the social programs in the district of Quetzaltepeque.

The veteran leader of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, FMLN, is the first guerrilla fighter to govern El Salvador.

Recently, Sanchez Ceren also expressed his support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro after the United States threatened a new round of sanctions if the sovereign country goes ahead with its National Constituent Assembly on July 30.

"I want to express our great solidarity with President Nicolas Maduro and the Venezuelan process," Sanchez Ceren said. "The Venezuelan process is preparing for elections to elect the Constituent Assembly, a process that Venezuela has always pursued by following the will of the people," the Salvadoran president added.
