In the Pacific Ocean, Hurricane Rosa has intensified into a major storm packing winds nearing 230 kilometers per hour and is located some 975 kilometers from Baja California in Mexico.
Rosa, now a Category 4 storm on the five-step Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, is the seventh hurricane with such a category of this season. “Little significant change in strength is forecast overnight, with some slow weakening anticipated by Saturday, and a larger decrease in wind speed expected early next week,” the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) stated in an advisory.
No coastal watches or warnings are in effect yet, according to the NHC said.
But “these swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions."
Meanwhile, in the Atlantic, Barbados, Martinique and Saint Lucia are experiencing the effects of Tropical Storm Kirk, the NHC said.
Heavy rains, thunderstorms and winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour are affecting the aforementioned regions. Authorities from the various countries have issued warnings about possible flash floodings and mudslides.
