The drastic about-face was stunning, coming as it did from talking-heads in the U.S. who for months rallied to the cause of “resistance.”

The smoke had hardly cleared from the wreckage caused by last week's U.S. barrage of 59 Tomahawk missiles aimed at Syria's Shayrat air base before liberal media personalities broke out in applause. By picking up the baton of “humanitarian” war, Donald Trump had finally restored honor to the U.S. presidency, according to them.

The fourth estate — which had almost seemed frightened that Trump would cut them off, cold-turkey, from an addiction to over 15 years of uninterrupted “Global War on Terror” — now had reason to praise the president they had previously cast as “mentally ill” and a “Moscow mule” beholden to the dictates of the Kremlin.

By launching a war against the “regime” of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Trump administration deserved only the highest praise for its maturity and statesman-like wisdom, the likes of which hadn't been seen since the Obama-led overthrow of Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi.

The drastic about-face was stunning, coming as it did from talking-heads in the U.S. who for months had rallied to the cause of liberal “resistance” to the orange-faced president that Keith Olbermann famously called “a traitor to everything this country has stood for.”

“President Trump's airstrikes against Syria were of dubious legality,” New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof correctly noted. “But most of all, they were right,” he added, revealing a common disdain for international law that unites imperialist war advocates on both sides of the aisle.

Following the strikes, the Times' front-page headline read, “On Syria Attack, Trump’s Heart Came First.”

CNN war-hawk Fareed Zakaria breathlessly praised the White House's newfound internationalism, noting how the cruise missiles — the United States' favorite mode of delivering democracy — seemed “to reflect a belated recognition from Donald Trump that he cannot simply put America first — that the president of the United States must act on behalf of broader interests and ideals.”

“In the short term the president struck a blow against evil, for which I congratulate him,” Zakaria added.

Brian Williams of MSNBC — a man who many incorrectly assumed had retired in disgrace years ago following his exposure as a serial liar — offered fawning praise for the U.S. Navy, saying, “They are beautiful pictures of fearsome armament,” referring to missiles that reportedly missed their targets, claiming the lives of nine civilians in villages surrounding Shayrat.

If anything, the groveling praise Trump has received from the liberal media establishment shows that to them, whatever the president's faults may be, launching illegal wars and “regime change” campaigns are not among them.
