The Answer Coalition and a long list of activists are set to protest in front of the White House against the administration's continued coup attempts on Venezuela

Demonstrators are gearing up for major demonstrations in front of the White House in Washington March 16 to protest President Donald Trump's violent attempts to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

“U.S. hands off Venezuela! NO to the coup — NO to sanctions — NO to a new U.S. war,” reads a statement by the Act Now to Stop War and Racism (Answer) coalition and some 150 other organizations and individuals behind the Saturday protest.

The Answer Coalition, along with the Black Alliance for Peace, Alliance for Global Justice, San Francisco Central Labor Council and even Roger Waters are planning and promoting the march against Trump’s threats of war against Venezuela saying in a statement: “The White House aims to overthrow the government of President Nicolas Maduro and replace him with Juan Guaido, … a U.S.-trained operative … (who) proclaimed himself president — at Vice President Mike Pence’s urging.”

In an Answer Coalition video about the march circulating on social media, Roger Waters says the Trump administration wants to start another “rich man’s war on an oil-rich nation.” Rogers, with a long list of U.S.-based activist say they are against Trump’s interventionism in Venezuela and U.S. policy to attack oil-rich countries in the name of peace and democracy.

“The Trump administration is trying to lead us, the American people, into another gruesome war for oil in Venezuela,” says an Answer Coalition member in the video.

The current U.S. government began a soft coup against Maduro shortly after entering office by placing a slew of sanctions against the Venezuelan government and individuals. As the list grew and intensified, the U.S. administration sent in Guaido in late January to take over the democratically elected Venezuelan government. Most recently the White House supported, if not masterminded, the cyber attack on the South American country that caused a nationwide blackout in an effort to overthrow Maduro.

The U.S. president and his cabinet have also sanctioned businesses and even other governments for doing business with Venezuela.

The Answer Coalition  and the other activists state that “the aggressive policy against Venezuela repeats the ugly pattern of wars for regime change in the oil-rich countries of Iraq and Libya,” adding “Trump has always said that the ‘mistake’ of the Middle East wars was that the U.S. didn’t ‘take the oil,’ ” reads the joint communique.
