Morales' government is working with the Israeli Foreign Ministry to establish the embassy's administration.

Guatemalan Foreign Minister Sandra Jovel confirmed that President Jimmy Morales will be present when the country's Israel embassy is moved to Jerusalem.

"It is estimated that the President can attend the inauguration of the transfer of the embassy to Jerusalem," the Guatemalan foreign minister said at a press conference.

The embassy is currently located in Tel Aviv but will be relocated on May 16. The president made the announcement late December after the United States declared a similar decision.

"Work is being done to have the issue of leasing, the payment of the officials, the administrative area and the services of the embassy in Jerusalem ready," Jovel explained.

Guatemala is working with the Israeli Foreign Ministry to establish the embassy's administration.

Morales said the relocation of the embassy will go ahead as planned and not be retracted, since Guatemala took the decision "because of the historic relations" between the two countries.

Last December, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution condemning the United States' decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Only Guatemala and six other countries sided with the United States and Israel.
