"I am honored and excited to announce that my running mate in the 2016 presidential election will be Ajamu Baraka, activist, writer, intellectual and organizer with a powerful voice, vision, and lifelong commitment to building true political revolution,” Stein said in a statement published on her campaign's website.

Stein further stressed that “Ajamu’s life’s work has embodied the immortal words of Dr. Martin Luther King: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

Ajamu Baraka is known within the U.S. and abroad for co-founding the U.S. Human Rights Network, where he served as executive director until 2011.

He has also served on the boards of various national and international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the National Center for Human Rights Education.

"Ajamu Baraka is a powerful, eloquent spokesperson for the transformative, radical agenda whose time has come—an agenda of economic, social, racial, gender, climate, Indigenous and immigrant justice,” Stein added.

Now that Bernie Sanders is out of the race, Stein is hoping to attract his supporters, who have kept Hillary Clinton and the Democratic establishment on their toes for the past few months.

Since the Vermont senator's announcement he was backing Clinton a few weeks ago, donations to the Green Party have soared, and prominent Sanders supporters such as Dr. Cornel West have switched their endorsement to Stein.
