Authorities have raised the terror threat in Switzerland’s second city with local police engaged in anti-terror raids.

The terror alert in the Swiss city of Geneva has been raised as security officials up the search for four suspects in connection to the Paris attacks.

A security guard, armed with submachine gun, outside the United Nations in Geneva told Reuters that Swiss authorities were actively searching for four people connected to last month’s Islamic State group coordinated assaults in the French capital.

The city wide search was confirmed by a statement from Geneva’s department of security.

"In the framework of investigations carried out following the Paris attacks, at the international and national level, Geneva police and their partners are actively looking for people whose description has been provided by the Swiss Confederation," the statement read.

It is thought Swiss security forces have deployed an increased number of policemen deployed across Geneva, which is close to the border with France.

Since the Nov.13, 2015 terror attacks, several European countries have been involved in investigations and searches for the perpetrators.
