The LGBTQ community and allies are marching across the world to celebrate the community in the face of homophobia and violence.

Gay Pride celebrations were especially heavy this weekend, two weeks after the Orlando shooting at a gay nightclub that claimed the lives of 49 mostly Latino partygoers and continued threats to LGBTQ communities around the world.

The LGBTQ community and allies marched onto the streets to celebrate the community in the face of homophobia and violence.

Other cities will march in the coming days, many on Sunday to commemorate the Stonewall Rebellion, which inspired the first pride parades.

The Stonewall Inn in New York City was the site of resistance by LGBTQ people of color after a routine, violent raid by the police, inspiring a two-day rebellion and giving birth to the modern LGBTQ movement in the U.S.
