The disgraced former President had been hospitalized with heart problems, but has now been given the all-clear to return to prison.

The National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) determined Tuesday that the ex-dictator Alberto Fujimori be transferred to Barbadillo prison from the Centenario Clinic, where he has been hospitalized for more than 100 days.

Agents to the Security of the State and members of the Peruvian National Police had previously been guarding the hospital where the disgraced former-President had been battling heart problems. The 80 year-old Fujimori had previously survived tongue cancer.

According to the official letter, sent by the president of the National Penitentiary Council, Carlos Romero Rivera, to the Special Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, the penitentiary center located inside the Diroes, Ate, is the right place to house Fujimori.

"I inform you that (Fujimori) is returning to the Barbadillo prison, inside the building of the Directorate of Special Operations of the National Police," the document said.

Alberto Kenya Fujimori Fujimori was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crimes in La Cantuta and Barrios Altos. In December 2017, he was pardoned by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, however, due to an irregularity in the process, the Judicial Power determined to revoke his pardon.

According to La Republica, Fujimori will be transferred to the Diroes prison, located in Ate, after the INPE guaranteed that this penitentiary center, where the ex-defendant was previously admitted, complies with the requirements set out in the expert's report prepared by the Institute of Legal Medicine.
