Former New York City mayor Rudi Giuliani said that France's use of electronically tagging Muslims on the terror watch list is an "excellent idea."

Donald Trump advisor and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said Muslims on a federal terror watch list should be electronically tagged, a policy used in France that he is urging Trump to copy.

Giuliani, who is known for his surveillance of Muslims during his tenure as mayor, told NJ Advance Media that tags would be an “excellent idea” before promising he would suggest it to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“If you’re on the terror watch list, I should know you’re on the terror watch list. You’re on there for a reason,” he said at a press conference.

France has already been monitoring terror suspects electronically, one of which was involved in a stabbing on Tuesday.

Giuliani’s surveillance strategies also bore little fruit.

The former New York mayor openly said that he sent undercover agents to mosques after a 1993 bombing and built a notorious legacy for escalating policing, especially in poor neighborhoods.

Who’s More Islamophobic, Donald Trump or the Democrats?

The New York Police Department dramatically escalated tactics that targeted the Muslim community after the 9/11 attacks, during which Giuliani served. None of the surveillance from 2006 to 2012 led to a terror investigation, according to the Associated Press.

The length of the terrorism watchlist is unknown, but at least 875,000 people were on it in 2012, as reported by the National Counterterrorism Center, and its arbitrary standards mean it is “bloated” with non-terror-related civilians, including peace activists, journalists, and of course many Muslims, according to the ACLU.

Trump has also suggested keeping a “database” of Muslims and banning them from the country, including those already living in the U.S., to prevent terror attacks.
