The white nationalist urges his supporters to vote and volunteer for Donald Trump.

A former leader of the Ku Klux Klan, David Duke, voiced his support for Republican presidential candidate Donal Trump Wednesday by encouraging the listeners of his radio program to volunteer and vote for Trump.

“When this show’s over, go out, call the Republican Party, but call Donald Trump’s headquarters, volunteer. They’re screaming for volunteers. Go in there, you’re gonna meet people who are going to have the same kind of mindset that you have.” Duke stated over U.S airwaves.

Duke argued that a vote for Trump's nearest rivals, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, both Cuban-Americans, is a sort of betrayal. “Voting for these people, voting against Donald Trump at this point is really treason to your heritage,” Duke told his listeners.

David Duke, a Ku Klux Klan grand wizard, left the Klan in 1980 to launch the National Association for the Advancement of White People. He won a seat in the Louisiana legislature in 1989 before running unsuccessfully for multiple offices, including Louisiana governor and U.S. president.

Since the 1970s the Klan has been greatly weakened seeing its membership decline due to internal conflicts and criminal prosecutions, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an advocacy group in Montgomery, Alabama, which tracks hate and anti-government groups.

“Today, the Center estimates that there are between 5,000 and 8,000 Klan members, split among dozens of different – and often warring – organizations that use the Klan name,” According to the SPLC.
