Laura Bozzo has been embroiled in numerous scandals and faced criticism for misusing public resources.

Controversial and influential Peruvian TV presenter Laura Bozzo could be expelled from Mexico for the “inappropriate” content of her show, the Mexican press reports on Thursday.

Bozzo has been embroiled in numerous scandals and faced criticism for misusing public resources and for the violence in her shows.

The Interior Ministry has announced that the permanent commission at the Congress is analyzing a request made by a lawmaker of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PDR) for an “exhaustive" analysis on the content of Laura Bozzo TV show “Laura,” which is transmitted by the Mexican broadcaster Televisa throughout the Spanish speaking world.

If the Congress determines that the content of her TV show is inappropriate, it could be canceled and she may face deportation under the article 33 of the Mexican Constitution, which establishes that under a series of violations, the Mexican State can ask foreigners to “abandon the national territory immediately and without the necessity of previous legal action.”

Since the early 90's Laura Bozzo has produced and hosted successful talk shows that have made her a prominent figure in Latin America, however the credibility of her sensationalist TV shows has been called into question due to their subject's far-fetched stories.

Similarly to the Jerry Springer show in the U.S., some accuse her of hiring actors to play “real” people to increase the drama.

Bozzo was arrested in Peru in 2002 on charges of corruption and accused of receiving millions of dollars during the dictatorship of Alberto Fujimori. She spent almost three years in house arrest in the studios Monitor of Lima, from where she broadcast her TV show.

After being acquitted she fled to Mexico, where she obtained a millionaire contract with the media-giant Televisa to continue her show, though she still faces embezzlement charges in Peru.

She was also accused in 2013 of using, for her own benefit, official government helicopters during a telecast undermining rescue attempts during the relief efforts for the Hurricane Manuel strike. The helicopters used by Bozzo belonged to the government of the State of Mexico, ruled by the largely-criticized Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Mexico's ruling political party which Laura is also believed to have close ties with.

The case was disclosed by the renowned journalist Carmen Aristegui, in response Bozzo sent an aggressive televised-message against Aristegui, calling her a liar, she claimed to love Mexico as her own country and said she was "more Mexican that any Mexican." Her statements prompted a wave of aggressions on social networks with millions of Mexicans demanding her expulsion under the hashtag #LauraBozzoFueraDeMexico (Laura Bozzo out of Mexico).

Last year it was reported that Bozzo didn't fulfill with the requirements asked by Mexico for the naturalization process,  and so, her application was rejected.
