Three of the deceased drowned in fast moving rivers in northern Honduras, where the national government ordered 370 residents to evacuate.

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez declared a red alert in the four northern departments of Islas de la Bahia, Cortes, Atlantida and Colon. Four other departments have been put on orange alert, with two more on green.

The downpours are also causing mudslides and significant damage to infrastructure in the two countries, flooding houses, damaging highways and taking out trees. Several rivers in both countries have also overflowed. The Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa has since seen significant damage to its infrastructure.

Hernandez visited the most affected areas of the country, where about 600 people have been forced to flee. The government reported that it provided humanitarian aid and food to roughly 1,425 citizens.

In Nicaragua, a 15-year-old boy drowned in the flooded Yali River in the province of Jinotega. A man is reported missing in Paiwas, located in the center of the country. Approximately 15,000 Nicaraguans are left without electricity in the northern region.

The two countries suffered significant damage from Hurricane Nate earlier this month. At least 13 people were killed in floods and mudslides in Nicaragua, and nine more died in Honduras and Costa Rica.
