FIFA: Caribbean Soccer Official Banned, Fined US$40,000

President of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Venold Coombs has been banned from all soccer activities two years by FIFA’s independent ethics committee.

"The investigatory chamber analyzed allegations that Mr. Coombs had sold tickets purchased by the SVGFF and by him personally, in his capacity as a FIFA standing committee member, for a profiteering markup," FIFA said in a statement.

"Mr. Coombs is therefore banned for two years from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level."

Following an investigation into the resale of the tickets, the organization ruled that Coombs breached Code of Ethics relating to bribery and corruption, conflicts and interest, and loyalty. The soccer executive is banned effective immediately and also fined US$40,000.

The tickets were for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Coombs is the latest Caribbean soccer official to be sanctioned by FIFA. Last year, Antiguan Gordon Derrick, president of the Caribbean Football Union, was banned for six years on similar charges and fined US$31,000.
