There were the woolly sweatshirts. There were the tattoos. And now, there’s “El Quemazon,” the Spanish-language song written and performed by Grupo La Meta.

Literally meaning “the burning sensation,” the jaunty, accordion-rich tune, performed in  norteño style, sings the praises of Sanders.

“He’s running to be president, but the rich don’t want him here,” the song goes.

Juve Quintana, the vocalist and composer of the song told teleSUR that he wrote it because he felt that Sanders was not given enough exposure by the media.

“When I was turned on to Bernie Sanders I didn’t know who he was, because of the media, because they don’t give him the same time on TV as Hillary Clinton, and I want everyone to know about him,” he said, speaking on the phone from California.

“I wanted to get the Hispanic community to get to know him. There was a lack of information out there,” he added.

Quintana, like most of the others in Grupo La Meta, is second-generation Mexican, now living in California.

Sanders appeals to him, he said, as he’s the candidate who will do most for working people.

“Not only Latinos, everyone should (vote for him.) We all want better things for our kids,” he added.

The catchy song has been shared by the Young Latinos for Bernie Facebook page, where it has garnered almost 17,000 views, and thousands more on YouTube.
