Afeni Shakur, who apparently suffered a cardiac arrest, was a U.S. music businesswoman, philanthropist, political activist and Black Panther.

Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther, philanthropist and activist, has died at age 69 this Tuesday, the Marin County Sheriff's Department in California reported.

The mother of one of the most legendary rappers of all time, Tupac Shakur—shot dead in Las Vegas in 1996—was born in January 1947 in Lumberton, North Carolina.

She founded several organizations, such as the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.
