El Chapo’s wife was hoping to get some alone time with the father of her two daughters, but the prison enlisted his first wife as the person authorized to enter.

Former Mexican beauty queen Emma Coronel, who married Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in 2014, was not allowed to visit the the Sinaloa Cartel leader at the Altiplano maximum security prison in Toluca, State of Mexico, because she was not on the list of authorized entries, La Jornada reported Wednesday.

According to the daily, Coronel was planning to have a conjugal visit with her husband and the father of her two daughters, but she couldn't because the name that appears in the list for this type of visit is his first wife, Alejandrina Maria Salazar.

If that were not enough, the former Miss Sinaloa, home state of El Chapo, cannot visit him in any form because he is still legally married with Salazar and according to prison regulations the drug trafficker can only be visited by his immediate family.

Coronel and Guzman got married in a secret ceremony in an exclusive and remote location in the northern region known as Mexico “Golden Triangle,” as it is notorious for poppy plant and marijuana plantations.

Critical magazine Proceso reported that the couple got married in a Catholic church and that the ceremony was attended by numerous personalities, including politicians.

However, the Mexican government only recognizes civil marriages, which means that if El Chapo wants to receive Coronel’s visits he will have to legally divorce Salazar and formalize a legal union with the former beauty queen.

Official sources revealed that El Chapo received at least 46 conjugal visits at the Altiplano maximum security prison before his second spectacular escape from the prison, where according to journalist, writer and expert on organized crime in Mexico, Anabel Hernandez, he received VIP treatment and even had control of the prison.

Hernandez recently told teleSUR that corruption at the prison affects even the highest officials, which in the past allowed El Chapo all kinds of luxuries, including food, gadgets and entertainment.

After the corruption at the prison was exposed due to the drug kingpin’s escape, the government has assured that new procedures and policies have been implemented and that there’s no chance El Chapo will escape again, something many experts find hard to believe.
