The two heads of state met in Quito, Ecuador, to sign a bilateral cooperation declaration.

The Ecuadorian President, Lenin Moreno, received his Honduran counterpart Juan Orlando Hernandez, in Quito, Ecuador.

The two heads of state signed a joint declaration to strengthen bilateral social and commercial ties.

"This bilateral agreement of economic cooperation pays special attention to our relationship. It is very important to strengthen our economies and our business relationship. For Honduras and Ecuador, this is an important step," said the Honduran President, after signing the declaration with his Ecuadorian counterpart.

The presidents discussed the situation in the region and stressed the need to maintain diplomacy as the main tool of governance. The declaration signed by both heads of state also notes that the relationship between the two countries is based on political dialogue, trade, and continuing cooperation.

Hernandez, who is the first head of state received during an official visit to Ecuador after the inauguration of the new Ecuadorian President, arrived in Quito and was received with full honors at the Carondelet Palace, in the old quarter of the capital.

The wife of President Moreno will meet with the First Lady of Honduras, Ana Garcia, who is expected to discuss cooperation in the struggle for gender and disability rights.

In addition, sources say that the two heads of state will exchange experiences in implementing social security programs.
