More than 800 Ecuadoreans with disabilities cast their ballots Friday in the 24 provinces of the country, with election officials visiting people in their homes along with police in order to facilitate their right to vote.

"We are one of the pioneering countries in terms of voting for people with disabilities," said Xavier Torres, president of the National Council for Equality of Disabilities. Torres and the head of Ecuador's National Electoral Council, Juan Pablo Pozo, kicked off the day of voting from the temporary headquarters of the electoral body.

Voters are given two ballots with the two candidate lists in the runoff elections, Lenin Moreno and Jorge Glas for the PAIS Alliance and the opposition coalition CREO-SUMA with Guillermo Lasso and Andres Paez.

The early vote came a day after inmates detained without conviction in the 38 Social Rehabilitation Centers voted across the country.

This Sunday, Ecuadoreans will head to the polls to decide between the candidates in the runoff, in an election which is being characterized as one of contesting visions between the accessibility activist Moreno, and the banker-turned-right-wing politician Lasso.
