Ecuador's National Criminal Court has rejected the latest appeal by former Vice-President Jorge Glas, convicted of conspiracy in connection with the sprawling corruption scandal centered on Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.

Glas was taken into pre-trial detention on October 2 and in December was sentenced to six years in prison, after which his defence team vowed to appeal the conviction.
On Friday, however, the court denied the appeal, along with the appeals of five other people also sentenced in connection with the case.
Judge David Jacho explained that the court had found no valid argument during the appeal hearing, which began at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time.
Glas' defense team indicated that they will present a cassation appeal to prove the former official's innocence.
