Some 50 organizations declared their complete rejection of U.S. aggression against the Bolivarian state.

Among the host of international government and groups condemning recent U.S. economic sanctions against Venezuela, a letter rejecting the measures was sent by social justice organizations in the Dominican Republic to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Almost 50 organizations from across the country, from workers unions to social movements and political groups declared in writing their complete disapproval of U.S. aggression against the Bolivarian state.

“We, who sign this declaration — representatives of popular movements and political organizations, intellectuals, artists — consider the current positions of the United States government a lack of respect for the autonomy of peoples, United Nations norms and international law,” the letter began.

“We demand full respect for international law and unconditionally support the right of the people of Venezuela to self-determination and sovereignty. We reject any form of interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela,” the organizations wrote, bringing special attention to the violations made by recent economic sanctions to Articles 19 and 20 of the Organization of American States' Charter.

Among the organizations were the Dominican Committee of Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela, the Rebel Movement, the Confederation of Women's Trade Unions, the National Peasant Coordination, and the Dominican Republic Human Rights Committee, among many others.

They described Trump’s attempts at punishing completely legal mandates by President Nicolas Maduro as “absurd.”

“We condemn any illegal, violent and unconstitutional attempt to overthrow the democratically elected government of Nicolas Maduro,” the groups stated.

“We support all attempts to mediate between the government and opposition in Venezuela; to find peace through dialogue such as the initiatives of Unasur; the Vatican; former presidents Zapatero, Fernandez and Torrijos; the group of five friendly countries (Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, El Salvador, St. Vincent and the Grenadines); and CARICOM,” the document said, reasserting that any disagreements between the two nations must be solved through constructive dialogue and diplomacy.

“We hope that the people of the United States will help us to contain the arrogance of their government. And protect the principles of solidarity, autonomy, and equality of international rights among all peoples,” the letter concluded.
