Maradona posted on Facebook, "We are Chavistas until death. And when Maduro orders, I am dressed as a soldier for a free Venezuela, to fight against the imperialism and those who want to take our flags, which is the most sacred thing we have."

The soccer superstar, known for his candor, warned against those that are aligned with the political right, "Viva the true Venezuelans, not those interested and involved with the political right," adding a shout of "Viva Chavez!!! Viva Maduro!!! Long live the revolution!!!"

Maradona, in addition to his achievements on the field, has repeatedly supported the revolutionary processes of the Latin American left, such as the Cuban Revolution of Fidel Castro, Bolivia's Evo Morales, Ecuador's Citizens' Revolution, and the Bolivarian Revolution initiated by Hugo Chavez.

Maradona, arguably Argentina's most beloved soccer star, has played in four FIFA World Cup tournaments – notably the 1986 final in which he led Argentina to a stunning 3-2 victory over West Germany in the final.

He has 91 caps for the South American nation and has also served as manager from 2008 to 2010.
