Maradona posted a photo to his Facebook showing solidarity with the the leaders of Brazil's Workers' Party.

Retired Argentine professional football superstar Diego Maradona today posted a photo on his Facebook account in which he holds a jersey with the name "Lula" in a show of solidarity with Brazil's embattled Leftist President Dilma Rousseff and her Workers' Party (PT), of which her presidential predecessor Lula da Silva was head for years.

Photo from Maradona's Facebook page.

"A soldier of Lula and Dilma," Maradona's caption with the photo reads.

Rousseff was ousted by what many are calling a "constitutional coup," with right-wing Brazilian Senate approving the impeachment process against Dilma Rousseff on May 12.

Although Brazil is embroiled in "Car Wash," the name of its largest corruption scandal in history which involves money laundering and bribes surrounding the national Pretrobras oil company, Rousseff has not been accused of corruption.

Maradona is the recipient of countless awards and honors, including FIFA's Player of the Century award in 2000. He is widely regarded as one of the great footballers in history and is one of many important figures in Latin America who have come out in support of Rousseff.
