The resolution adopted by the solidarity groups also reprimanded El Pais for supporting Venezuela’s right wing, as well as NATO interventions.

Over 200 representatives from Cuban solidarity groups have singled out the Spanish newspaper El Pais as the “biggest liar” in its reporting on Cuba, and its revolution.

Convening at the 14th State Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in the northern region of the Basque Country in Spain, over 66 solidarity organizations gave the outlet the unique distinction Sunday in a resolution that was adopted by all.

The groups branded El Pais as a media outlet deserving of the “award” as it has excelled in the “art of slandering, manipulating and distorting news and information against Cuba and its revolution,” Prensa Latina reported.

The groups also argued that “not even the injection of capital from foreign investment groups” can help El Pais recover from the multiple scandals associated with the outlet, which has had adverse effects on its readership and image.

The first distinction of this kind was made by the group in 2014 at its forum in Zaragoza, Spain. That year it awarded the conservative Spanish outlet, ABC, the title.

The resolution adopted by the solidarity groups also reprimanded El Pais for supporting the right-wing opposition in Venezuela, as well as interventions by NATO.

“In short … very friendly to the enemies of the people," the groups declared.

They plan to send their message to the director of El Pais, Antonio Caño, who they argue has been responsible for the outlet’s neoliberal drift since 2014.

The solidarity movement with Cuba will also send its resolution to other entities that they say share the same interests and ideology as El Pais, which align with the interests of powerful governments and coup-mongers in the region.

The 14 State Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba began Saturday, with organizations gathering to analyze the consequences of the U.S. blockade of the Caribbean country, among other issues.
