Cuba to UN: US Doesn’t Have Moral Authority to Judge Us

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez has spoken at the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, where he criticized the U.S. government and offered support for anti-imperialist states around the world.

Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks against Cuba, Rodriguez reminded Washington of its own dirty laundry.

“We remind the United States of its violations of human rights,” Rodriguez said. 

“They do not have the slightest moral authority to judge my country.”

He also accused the United States of using weapons and financial, judicial and cultural pressure to interfere with the right of self-determination of peoples around the world. He warned that the attempt to use force to stop the global trend towards multilateralism will provoke effects that must be stopped by popular mobilization.

"Non-interference in the affairs of governments must be respected,” the Cuban official said, adding that “the patriotism invoked in U.S. discourse is a perversion which embodies a supremacist vision.”

After critiquing the illegal U.S. blockade against Cuba, Rodriguez slammed Trump’s recent military threat against Venezuela, Washington’s support for the Nica Act against Nicaragua and the political targeting of former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva. 

He also expressed support for dialogue in Syria and the Korean peninsula. 

Finally, he spoke about hurricane recovery efforts in Cuba and across the Caribbean, thanking those who assisted in recovery work and offering support for those still reeling from damages.
