Millions of Hondurans headed to the polls on Nov. 26 to elect a president and 128 members of the National Congress.
While preliminary results showed left-of-center candidate Salvador Nasralla of the Opposition Alliance well ahead of incumbent President Juan Orlando Hernandez with some 70 percent of ballots counted, the country's electoral tribunal showed final results giving Hernandez the victory - over a week after the vote.
Since then, the country has been paralyzed by protests and the opposition parties have demanded a vote recount of all ballots.
Members of Honduran Police Refuse to 'Repress the People'
Members of the Honduran National Police force, including two of its special military trained forces, the Cobras and Tigres, announced they would be on the streets to “protect not repress the Honduran people.”
