A video from a security camera showed a man being run over by two tanks in an Istanbul district. He miraculously survived.

There were many shocking scenes from Turkey over the weekend during the height of the attempted coup against the government, but one of the most incredible is that of a man surviving being run over by two military tanks as he confronted them in the street and threw rocks at them.

The incident took place in the Uskudar district of Istanbul and was caught on camera by a nearby security camera showing Sabri Unal as he attempted to stop the tanks by lying in front of them.

“The real owners of this heroic story are the martyrs and wounded citizens. I only contributed to it with a protest that lasted for a minute,” Unal told Dogan News Agency while he was in hospital receiving treatment for a broken arm, the only injury he sustained.

The shocking video shows Unal throwing rocks at one tank and holding his hands up to prevent it from advancing before lying in front of it in order to force the vehicle to stop.

But the tank is seen rolling over over Unal, who managed to survive by positioning himself between the tank’s treads before he stood up again after the tank passed and was confronted yet again by a second tank.

“The second tank came. I tried to escape from it, but when I understood that I wouldn’t be able to do that, I tried to lie down between the treads once again. The second tank crushed my arm,” he said.

Many Turkish citizens took to the streets after a call by Turkish President Recep Yayyip Erdogan through the iPhone app FaceTime, who demanded they stand up for the coup and support his government which ultimately helped the government prevail.

Many citizens were seen supporting the pro-government police, confronting pro-coup military vehicles while also arresting soldiers.
