The police captain was filmed in a sexually charged conversation with a former senator, which helped reveal a male prostitution ring within the police.

A Colombian police captain who exposed an alleged male prostitution ring was kidnapped last Saturday but escaped Monday, according to police sources.

Captain Anyelo Palacios was held by his captors in Caliche, near the Venezuelan border, but police gave no further details about the kidnapping.

He was transferred to Cucuta to assess his health. Police are still investigating the kidnapping.

Palacios was captured by four men on motorcycles when he was driving with his stepfather, who later told authorities what happened.

The officer was embroiled in a scandal that implicated the police force in a gay prostitution network, dubbed the "The Fellowship of the Ring." The director of the police force lost his job after it was made public.

The plot generated a national debate following a broadcast by the radio station La FM of a 2008 video of Palacios in a sexually charged conversation with then-Senator Carlos Ferro.

Attorney General Alejandro Ordoñez then opened an investigation into the institution and "possible capital gains, tracking and alleged illegal wiretapping of journalists and creation and implementation of an alleged male prostitution ring."
