Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, said the country must stand up to threats from the United States.

Rallies in support of Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly elections have been taking place around the country.

Thousands of people have turned out to hear the speeches on the eve of the final day of campaigning before Sunday's vote.

The Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, told workers at the state oil company PDVSA that they form part of the nation's backbone.

Speaking in Monagas State, the Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, said the country must stand up to threats to the nation's sovereignty from the United States. Cabello also said he hoped the polls would would help to give rise to a new opposition.

Candidates for the Constituent Assembly have also been holding closing rallies in Miranda, Falcon and Anzoátegui.

Campaigning in Los Teques in Miranda state, candidate Héctor Rodríguez called on the Venezuelan right to reject violence and join Maduro's call for peace. While the former foreign minister, Delcy Rodriguez maintained that the election process will help to bring liberation as well as stability to the country.
